Values are sheets per m³ (nominal dimensions). Orders are placed in whole sheets.
How to calculate plywood in m², m³ and sheets
Plywood is bought and sold by the sheet, by the square metre (m²) or by the cubic metre (m³). Converting between them depends only on the sheet size and thickness. The calculator above does it automatically; below are the formulas, with examples for a 2500 × 1250 mm, 18 mm sheet.
- Area of one sheet (m²) = length (m) × width (m) → 2.5 × 1.25 = 3.125 m²
- Volume of one sheet (m³) = area (m²) × thickness (m) → 3.125 × 0.018 = 0.05625 m³
- Sheets per m³ = 1 ÷ sheet volume → 1 ÷ 0.05625 = 17.8 sheets
- m² → m³ = area (m²) × thickness (m) → 100 m² × 0.018 = 1.8 m³
- m³ → sheets = volume (m³) ÷ sheet volume → 10 ÷ 0.05625 = 177.8 → 178 sheets
Why round up to whole sheets?
Plywood is shipped as whole sheets. A requirement given in m² or m³ is therefore rounded up to the number of whole sheets that covers at least that amount. The calculator also shows the actual m² and m³ of the rounded sheet count.
Converting between m² and m³ prices
If a price is quoted per m², the price per m³ = price per m² ÷ thickness (m). For 18 mm plywood 1 m³ = 55.6 m², so the m³ price is 55.6 times the m² price; for 21 mm the factor is 47.6. The sheet price is the m² price × the sheet area.
Ordering, packing and shipping
We pack to customer requirements: the number of sheets per pallet is agreed with each order, depending on thickness, size and mode of transport. Enter your preferred pack size in the pallet field of the calculator to see the approximate number of pallets.
Calculations use nominal dimensions; the thickness tolerance in production is ± 0.5 mm. Weight is approximate, based on the average density of the species; actual values can vary by about ± 10% with the log batch and moisture content.
Frequently asked questions
01How many 18 mm plywood sheets are in 1 m³?
In the 2500 × 1250 mm size, 1 m³ = 17.8 sheets; in 2440 × 1220 mm it is 18.7 sheets. As orders are placed in whole sheets, 1 m³ is counted as 18 sheets (2500 × 1250) or 19 sheets (2440 × 1220).
02How many m² is one sheet of plywood?
A 2500 × 1250 mm sheet is 3.125 m², 2440 × 1220 mm is 2.977 m², 3000 × 1500 mm is 4.5 m² and 1525 × 1525 mm is 2.326 m². The area does not depend on thickness.
03How do I convert an m² price into an m³ price?
Price per m³ = price per m² ÷ thickness in metres. For 18 mm plywood 1 m³ = 55.6 m², so the m³ price is 55.6 times the m² price; for 21 mm the factor is 47.6.
04Does film facing change the m³ calculation?
No. Volume is calculated with the nominal sheet thickness; the phenolic film is so thin that its effect on volume is negligible. It does add about 0.25 kg per m² (both faces) to the weight.
05How many plywood sheets are on a pallet?
We pack to customer requirements. The number of sheets per pallet is agreed with each order, depending on thickness, size, mode of transport and storage conditions. Enter your preferred pack size in the calculator to see the approximate number of pallets.
